Creating a Template for Your Custom Hjdeck Kit

Creating a Template for Your Custom Hjdeck Kit - HJDECK

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Custom Boat Kit Template

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Materials

- Customer information sheet
- Masking tape
- Sharp razor or scissors
- Pen, Sharpie marker
- Straightedge (Ruler)
- Clear template material

Step 2: Prepare the Work Area

- Place the boat in a well-lit area
- Ensure the deck is clean and dry

Step 3: Layout and Secure the Template Material

- Unfold the template material and place it on the desired area of the boat deck
- Trim the material as needed to fit the area
- Use masking tape to securely fix the template material in place

Step 4: Record the Key Information

- Write your name, address, boat model/manufacturer on the template
- Indicate the bow and stern orientation, port and starboard sides
- Number each individual part
- Note any hinges, latches, pleats or cutouts that need to be accounted for
- If you want a teak pattern applied, indicate the desired direction (bow to stern)
- If you've chosen a color combination, you can note that as well

Step 5: Trace the Non-Skid Pattern

- Carefully trace the molded non-skid pattern onto the template material
- Take your time, the lines do not need to be perfectly straight (but the better the template is, the easier it will be for us to make the part that fits exactly)

Step 6: Photograph the Completed Template

- Take clear photos of the template on the boat
- Send the photos to eric@hjdeck.com

Follow these steps and you will have successfully created a template for your custom boat kit. Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Case Studies: Successful Custom Hjdeck Kits

When Jerry initially contacted us about a custom swim platform pad for his 2012 Chaparral 287 SSX, we noticed some discrepancies between the dimensions of our 2011 template and his 2012 boat model. To ensure a precise fit, we recommended that Jerry create a plastic template of the swim platform himself and send it to us.

Jerry quickly produced the plastic template and mailed it over. After several rounds of meticulous measurements and adjustments, we were able to finalize a version that closely matched the contours of his custom template. We then proceeded with the production of the swim platform pad.

Recently, Jerry has confirmed receiving the finished product and provided positive feedback on the install. The pad appears to fit his 2012 Chaparral 287 SSX very well, thanks to the iterative process of working directly with Jerry's own template.

This collaborative approach, where the customer supplies a custom template, helps us overcome any model year variations and ensure a perfect fit for specialty boat accessories like swim platform pads. We're glad the final product has met Jerry's expectations, and appreciate his engagement throughout the customization process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Customization Options Can I Add to My Hjdeck Boat Kit?

You can customize color combinations, textures, patterns, logos, fonts, adhesive backing, hardness, thickness, etc.

How Do I Maintain My Hjdeck Boat Kit?

Cleaning: Regularly clean your EVA foam flooring with mild soapy water or a non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid using acidic or alkaline cleaners.

Sun protection: Prevent discoloration and deterioration by avoiding prolonged sunlight exposure or using a shelter like a cabin awning.

Waterproof: Wipe up spills promptly and ensure sealed edges are intact to prevent moisture from seeping underneath.

Avoid sharp objects: Prevent scratches and damage by avoiding direct contact with sharp items. Handle and store objects with care and use protective materials.

Regular inspection: Check for wear, damage, and loose parts regularly. Repair or replace damaged areas promptly.

Storage: Thoroughly clean and dry the flooring before storing in a dry, ventilated area away from humidity and extreme temperature changes.

How to Effectively Remove Old Mats?

Remove the existing mats:

1. Starting at the edge: Begin removal at one of the edges or corners. Gently lift the edge to loosen the grip.
2. Heat (if applicable): If the mats are bonded with strong adhesive, heating with a heat gun or hair dryer can help soften the adhesive and make removal easier. Be careful not to overheat or damage the surface underneath.
3. Gradual peeling: Slowly and steadily peel the mat away from the surface, applying gentle pressure if necessary. Take your time to avoid tearing or damaging the mat or the surface underneath.
4. Clean up residue: After removing the mat, clean up any adhesive residue using an appropriate adhesive remover or cleaner.
5. Surface cleaning: After the mat and adhesive residue are removed, clean the surface thoroughly.
